Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Purpose of Job: Carry out geotechnical design

Reporting to: Technical Director

Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire

Salary: £20,000 – £25,000

We are looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our growing consultancy and help us to deliver high quality, pragmatic designs for our forward workload of exciting and challenging projects. In return, we will provide you with hands on training to support your technical development to help you gain experience and knowledge in a wide range of geotechnical design.

 

Remedy Geotechnics

We are a highly focused geotechnical design practice with a rapidly growing client base. We carry out a broad range of design work, with current projects encompassing bearing piles, shallow foundations, retaining walls, slope stabilisation, soil nailing, reinforced soil, ground improvement, earthworks, ground anchors and working platforms. You would therefore be expected to tackle a wide range of situations within the geotechnical field, with full technical backup from the Remedy Directors and Senior Engineers. No two days are the same, so flexibility and ingenuity are always required!

 

Your objective:

With full support from Remedy Geotechnics Directors and senior staff, you will be undertaking:

  • Interpretation of geotechnical data and development of ground models
  • Geotechnical design and analysis
  • Writing technical reports and specifications

 

Desirable Skills:

  • A good analytical ability and numeracy skills.
  • A knowledge of pile design, retaining walls, earthworks (unreinforced and reinforced) and slope retention (soil nailing, ground anchoring) – full training and support will be provided.
  • Experience in the use of geotechnical design software; preferably WALLAP, Oasys GeoSuite, Rocscience Slide (or other slope stability software).
  • Good written English.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.

 

 

Qualifications / Attributes:

A 2:1 civil engineering or engineering geology degree. An MEng/MSc/PhD in geotechnical engineering is highly desirable.

A good knowledge of fundamental soil mechanics principles.

A passion for geotechnics.

Desire to become chartered with ICE or The Geological Society.

Good sense of humour.

Full driving license.

  • Producing fee proposals.
  • Managing jobs in line with our company values and ensuring they are delivered on target and to budget.
  • Supervising graduate geotechnical engineers.
  • Client liaison.

Desirable Skills:

  • A good analytical ability and numeracy skills.
  • A knowledge of pile design, retaining walls, earthworks (unreinforced and reinforced) and slope retention (soil nailing, ground anchoring) – full training and support will be provided.
  • Experience in the use of geotechnical design software; preferably WALLAP, Oasys GeoSuite, Rocscience Slide (or other slope stability software).
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
