Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer – Temporary Position

Remedy Geotechnics is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to provide maternity cover.  The position will start at the mid/end of January 2020 and will last for between six to nine months (with a possibility of a longer term appointment).

Job Title: Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Purpose of Job: Carry out geotechnical design work

Reporting to: Managing Director – Derek Egan &/or Technical Director Dan Simpson

Who works for the employee: Graduate geotechnical engineer

Location: Daventry, Northamptonshire/or Harrogate, Yorkshire

Salary: £32,000 – £40,000 depending on experience


The responsibilities of the job will be as follows:

Reporting to a senior Director the successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who relishes solving engineering challenges in a fast-paced construction focussed consulting environment. Daily tasks will centre around:-

  1. Manging and carrying out project geotechnical design work from assessment of geotechnical information through to production of detailed design calculations and reports.
  2. Liaising with clients to facilitate efficient execution of project work.
  3. Continually operating in line with Remedy Geotechnical Ltd’s values.

  3. Completing geotechnical commissions to time and budget.

Possible developments of the job:

Currently this is a temporary position but if our projected workload increases then there might be a possibility for the role to become permanent.   It is emphasised, though, that in the first instance this is a temporary role.

Job specifications


A strong track record of interpreting and analysing ground investigation and laboratory data to obtain geotechnical design parameters. A strong geotechnical analytical capability in the design of piles, embedded retaining walls, earthworks (unreinforced and reinforced) and slope retention (soil nailing, ground anchoring).


Will probably posses
A good civil engineering or engineering geology degree plus an MSc in geotechnical engineering. A strong knowledge of fundamental soil mechanics principles and a demonstrable analytical ability in geotechnical engineering design.

A track record in the use of standard geotechnical design software.

A passion for geotechnics.



Dependent on skills and nature of experience offered but may suit 3 to 5 years



An open and collaborative working style.

Flexibility to fulfil various roles as may sometimes be required for the benefit of the team.

Good sense of humour.

Clean driving license & car.




Working hrs: 37.5hrs per week.
